User Fee mooted at 6 more airports

Airports Authority of India, has submitted a proposal to government of India for levying user development fee at 6 airports viz.Mangalore, Trichy, Vizag and Udaipur, Amritsar and Varanasi. As of now, only the airport which are developed under private sector partnership are charging user development fee from departing passengers. AAI has sought a fee from Rs.150 to Rs.900 from each departing traveller. The authority had earlier sought to levy such fee for Chennai and Kolkatta airports but no decision had been taken yet.Bangalore Airport to get second passenger terminal building

Bangalore International Airport Ltd board which has recently met has decided to initiate process for building a new passenger terminal building. Anticipating a 60 % increase in passenger traffic from 9.4 million passengers movement in 2009. Its design for the new terminal will be decided through a global bidding process. Airports Authority of India (AAI) which was established by an act of parliament is to get amended to become a corporate body. According to minister of civil aviation, an amendment would be placed before the parliament by March 2010. This move will enable AAI to raise funds to modernize airports around the country. A study done by Jacob Consultancy, an aviation and airport consultancy firm in 2008 indicates the airport charges in India is just around 3.25 to 3.5 % of total airline charges. It is found that it is 16% lower than Toronto airport and even competitive among south east asian airports of Singapore, Bangkok and Beijing. Mumbai airport is ranked 50th among the global airports conducted by the study.More Articles...
